Golden Lion, White Witch
“Golden Lion, White Witch” – a small reference to Narnia. The witch is the lady with three flaming squirrelballs. I’d like to find time to CG this one of these days- though I have another fun picture in the works.
The lion knight is from a race sworn to protect the integrity of their world – by putting the dead to rest. Meanwhile, a few witches wanted to improve the world through necromancy – imagine an army of servants and workers who require no comfort, rest, or wages. The very nature of a witch is to push the boundaries of what is acceptable. Lun, the first coven leader, knew that it was only natural her brethren, including the leadership, would be tempted violate every rule they put in place against necromancy. So instead of fighting the Lynarian or killing her own sisters, Lun made a pact with them – the order of lion knights would act as the golden police force for the human city where the witches lived. Any witch found breaking the laws against necromancy was fair game. This way, the Lynarian could fulfill their sworn duty without feeling the need to exterminate every witch.
The Lion Pact didn’t come about easily. Each side bled rivers. The Lynaria are a fiercly proud, dutiful, and honorable race. They craft their own armor from metals fallen from stars and each Lynarian can transform into a lion. They breed giant lions for the man-form Lynarian to ride. When it became clear that the Lynarian would certainly lose the war, they agreed to the pact – for if the Lynarian were slaughtered to the last child, no one could fulfill their mandate to eliminate necromancy. Duty before pride.
Now, the Lynarian live in their own isolated quarter of the city. Their golden patrols are easily spotted in the streets. They are loved by the ordinary humans, mistrusted by the witches – but their stubborn commitment to honor the centuries old pact makes them a fantastic city watch. Supposedly, there are no crooked cops in this bunch.
